Where to Buy Quality Bags in Ashaiman and Tema

Ashaiman and Tema are full of places to buy a bag: market stalls, roadside sellers, shops and Instagram and TikTok sellers who deliver to your door. With so much choice, the hard part is not finding a bag. It is finding one that still looks good, and still holds together, a year from now.

This guide covers how to shop for quality bags in and around Ashaiman and Tema, what to check wherever you buy, and how to find our shop.

1. Market, shop or online?

Each way of buying has its strengths:

  • Markets and roadside sellers offer lots of choice and room to bargain, but quality can vary from bag to bag, even within the same style. Take your time and check each bag carefully.
  • Shops let you see, touch and compare bags properly, and you know where to go back if there is a problem.
  • Online and social media sellers are convenient and often deliver, but you cannot check the bag before it arrives. Choose sellers who answer questions, send extra photos and videos, and offer pay on delivery or a clear return policy.

2. What to check, wherever you buy

  1. Stitching where the handles join the bag: small, even, tight, with no loose threads.
  2. Handles and straps: fixed with stitching and metal fittings, not glue alone.
  3. Lining: neatly stitched all round, with no gaps at the corners.
  4. Hardware: buckles, clasps and locks that feel solid and close firmly.
  5. Edges: smooth and sealed, not rough, cracked or peeling.
  6. Smell and finish: a strong chemical smell or a sticky surface can be a sign of a poorly finished bag.

Our guide to choosing a work bag explains each of these checks in more detail.

Check the stitching where the handles meet the bag, and test every buckle and clasp.

3. Questions to ask an online seller

  • Can you send a short video of the bag, inside and out?
  • What are the exact measurements in centimetres?
  • Can I pay on delivery, or pay by MoMo before delivery?
  • What happens if the bag arrives damaged or is not as described?
  • Do you have a shop I can visit?

A good seller answers these happily. If a seller avoids them, that is a warning sign.

Five signs a bag will not last

Whether you are at a market stall in Ashaiman or looking at photos from an online seller, these are the warning signs to watch for:

  1. Handles held on with glue. If you cannot see stitching or a metal fitting where the handle meets the bag, it may come away under weight.
  2. Bubbling or peeling on the surface. Small bubbles or flaking at the corners and edges usually get worse quickly in heat.
  3. Thin, loose lining. If the lining moves around inside or the seams are already pulling, it will tear when you carry heavier things.
  4. Hardware that feels hollow or bends. Clasps and buckles take a lot of strain. Lightweight ones scratch, lose their colour and can break.
  5. A shape that collapses. A work bag that cannot hold its shape when empty will look tired very quickly when full.

None of these need an expert eye. Take an extra minute to look, pull gently and open and close every clasp before you pay.
